According to a December 2019 article in Law.com:
Fewer lawyers than ever are joining bar associations and participating in bar-sponsored events. Across the country, membership in non-mandatory associations has been in steady decline for over 10 years, despite the unflagging increase in the number of lawyers available to join. Many associations that can accomplish noble goals are limited by the declining number of attorneys who participate in their programs.
It is doubtful that the global pandemic will reverse this decline and it may well accelerate it.
While In The House supports the missions of many bar associations, and hopes they find new ways to serve the legal community, we also believe that CLOs, GCs and other in-house lawyers need to find alternative ways to grow their professional networks — a challenge that we try to make easier by making free and low-cost networking tools available to in-house legal executives.
What are you doing to grow your in-house network during COVID-19?
